Water Softener - Drain Type and Location

A water softener can be drained into a laundry tub, standpipe, sump, floor drain, or other options (check local codes); providing there is an air gap for all. The drain field should be able to handle small amounts of brine regenerate. For proper drain operation 10 feet is recommended, however it can be drained up to 30 feet maximum. If raising the drain hose overhead to reach drain, raise it no more than 8 feet high for proper drainage.
