Electric Range & Cooktop - Radiant Element Temperature Limiter
Electric ranges and cooktops with radiant surface burners feature a temperature limiter on each burner.
Understanding the Radiant Element Temperature Limiter
Radiant burners can cause extremely high cooktop temperatures if left on for a long period of time, particularly with a non-flat pan. These burners have "temperature limiters" mounted to the bottom of the element. If the burner should get too hot, the limiter will shut the power off to the element until it cools (approximately 880° Fahrenhiet). The limiter will then reset and the burner can be used again.
