Radiant Ranges and Cooktops - Temperature Limiter
Radiant burners can cause extremely high cooktop temperatures if left on for a long period of time, particularly with a non-flat pan. These burners have "temperature limiters" mounted to the bottom of the element. If the burner should get too hot, the limiter will shut the power off to the element until it cools (approximately 880F). The limiter will then reset and the burner can be used again.
