Built-In Countertop Microwave - Microwave Oven Replacement
There are many Countertop Microwave models available. However, only select models can be installed in a cabinet using an optional built-in trim kit for a built-in look. When replacing an existing built-in Countertop Microwave, you need to consider the following:
-
Is the new countertop microwave built-in capable?
-
Is the cabinet cut-out requirement for the new microwave the same size as the one for the microwave being replaced?
-
Do I need a 27" or 30" wide built-in trim kit?
The microwave built-in trim kits are designed to provide a built-in look and they also provide the air flow needed around the microwave.
-
The trim kit is purchased separately and does not come with the microwave.
-
A trim kit consists of the trim frame as well as ducts that encase and attach to the microwave inside the cabinet cut-out.
-
It is very important to only use the trim kit designed to be used with a specific microwave model.
-
If you are replacing a built-in countertop microwave with a newer model, you can only use the existing trim kit for the new model if the product details for both models have the same built-in kit number listed. You can check the Accessories section of the Specs & Details tab for each model to compare built-in kit numbers.
Determining which Trim Kit you need:
-
Microwave models that have the built-in trim kit option will offer a 27" and 30" wide trim kit. The trim kit part numbers will be listed in the Accessories section of the Specs & Details tab as well as the Quick Specs document for the microwave.
-
The 27" or 30" width is the outside dimension of the trim frame. This is measured from one side to the other (not at a diagonal).
-
The only difference between the 27" and 30" trim kit is the trim frame. The upper and lower ducts that encase the microwave in the cabinet cut-out opening are the same.
-
If the microwave is installed over a 27" or 30" wall oven, be sure to match the trim kit width to the oven.
The Countertop Microwave built-in trim kits require a specific size cut-out opening in the cabinet. It is important to check the required cut-out dimensions for the trim kit. This information can be found in the microwave Quick Specs document as well as the Installation Instructions for the built-in trim kit.
