Data Port / RJ45 Jack on Appliance

Current appliances have a data port (like an RJ jack or ethernet port) that allows the appliance to be tested or serviced more easily. This port is used by GE Appliances factory technicians to plug in their diagnostic equipment when needed. If it is a smart appliance with Optional WiFi capabilities, it is also where you plug in the optional Connect module. For more information about Smart appliances

Models with and without WiFi are serviced using the onboard data port, which a technician uses for diagnostics. This gives our service technicians the ability to quickly diagnose any issues with your appliance and helps us improve our products by providing us with information on your appliance. If you do not want your appliance data to be sent to us, please advise your technician not to submit the data at the time of service.

You may see flashing or blinking lights (often red or white) coming from the data port area. This is normal and is part of the diagnostic system.
