On Bottom-Freezer Refrigerators that use the RPWFE water filter, the appliance uses radio frequency identification (RFID) to detect leaks and monitor the filter status. On models with an LCD touch screen, if you receive a "Leak Detected" message on the control panel and have the RPWFE water filter installed, you can check the following things to try to resolve the situation.
Diagnosing Reasons for a Leak Detected Message on the Refrigerator Display
Check the Filter Area for Leaks On or Around the Filter
In most cases, replacing the filter will resolve the leak.
If it does not, service may be needed.
Make Sure the Filter Is Installed Properly
Install the filter so that the front label is facing forward and is visible and the word "Back" faces the filter housing.

Check the Filter to Make Sure It Is a Genuine RPWFE Water Filter
On genuine RPWFE filters, there is a visible ID chip under the label where it says "This side must face inward". There should be a black square outline just under the label. If there is no chip under the label, it is not a genuine RPWFE filter and will not work in the Refrigerator.
