Advantium - Microwaving

When using the Advantium as a microwave, use only the white ceramic (on some models) or clear glass tray. The turntable support must always be in place when using the Advantium. The Owner's Manual covers the proper cookware in detail.

Only microwave-safe cookware, containers, and coverings should be used, such as:

  • Glass cooking dishes, measuring cups, etc. without metal trim or paint.
  • Ceramic mugs or plates without metal trim or paint.
  • Any plastic or silicone container labeled "safe for use in microwave." Be sure to follow the cookware manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Microwave-safe lids
  • Paper towels, waxed paper and plastic wrap can be used. Be sure to vent plastic wrap so steam can escape. Not all plastic wrap is suitable for use in microwave ovens. Check the package for proper use.
  • Foil may be used, but only as directed in the Owner's Manual. When using foil, keep it at least 1" away from the sides of the oven.
  • If you use a meat thermometer while cooking, make sure it is safe for use in microwave ovens

Do not use certain cookware or coverings, such as:

  • Stoneware (not recommended)
  • Do not use the wire rack or metal tray
  • Metal cookware or containers
  • Metal utensils, twist ties, etc.
  • Do not use recycled paper products. Recycled paper towels, napkins and waxed paper can contain metal flecks. Paper products containing nylon or nylon filaments should be avoided, as they may ignite.
  • Some foam trays (like meat trays) have a thin strip of metal embedded in the bottom. When microwaved, the metal can burn the floor of the oven or ignite a paper towel.
  • Not all plastic wrap is suitable for use in microwave ovens. Check the package for proper use.
  • Foil may be used, but only as directed in the Owner's Manual. When using foil, keep it at least 1" away from the sides of the oven.

Cooking tips:

  • When cooking vegetables, use a microwave-safe casserole or bowl. Cover with a microwave-safe lid or vented plastic wrap. Leave the container partially uncovered.
  • Boilable cooking/steaming pouches and tightly closed plastic bags should be slit, pierced, or vented as directed by package instructions. Be sure to select a size cookware that will rotate easily.
  • Plastic designed for microwave cooking is very useful, but should be used carefully. Even microwave-safe plastic may not be as tolerant of overcooking conditions as glass or ceramic materials. Plastic may soften or char if subjected to short periods of overcooking.

If you are not sure if a dish is microwave-safe, use this test:

  1. Place both the dish you are testing and a glass measuring cup filled with 1 cup of water in the oven.
  2. Set the measuring cup either in or next to the dish.
  3. Microwave 30-45 seconds at high.
  4. If the dish heats, it should not be used for microwaving. If the dish remains cool and only the water in the cup heats, then the dish is microwave-safe.
