Compactor - Drawer Hard to Close

The compactor has safety switches to ensure that the drawer is in its fully closed position. The compactor will not cycle without the drawer being fully closed. If the drawer won't close properly, trash may have fallen behind the drawer.

You can remove the drawer to check and clean behind it:

  1. Pull the drawer out until it stops.
  2. Lift the front to clear the drawer stops .
  3. Grab the drawer on both sides and pull it out the rest of the way.
  4. Set the drawer to the side.
  5. Look for fallen trash. You can wipe up any liquid spills and vacuum (with the hose attachment) any dry trash or dust while the drawer is not installed.
  6. Clean the interior with a damp, soapy cloth and dry thoroughly.
  7. Replace the drawer, making sure you place it back on the drawer tracks.

If the drawer will not close and there is nothing obstructing it from closing, we recommend service. For service, please schedule an appointment with GE Appliances Factory Service.
