Top Load Washer - Status Lights Come on When Lid Is Opened

Many Top Load Washers have LED indicator lights on the control panel of the appliance. This simply notifies you of the status of the wash cycle in use.

Understanding Why the Status Indicator Lights Come On When the Lid Is Opened on a Top Load Washer

On many Top Load Washers with status indicator LED lights, it is normal for the status lights, Fill, Soak, Wash, Rinse, Spin, to all come on when you open the lid, even when the Washer is not being used. Using the controls or opening the lid "wakes up" the controls and is a signal that the Washer is ready to be used. What is shown on the status indicator LEDs when the control is woken up is what cycle elements are included in the currently chosen cycle. For example, if the cycle knob happened to be on the Drain & Spin cycle when the lid is opened, then only the Spin LED would illuminate since Spin is the only element of that cycle. So if the cycle knob happened to be on a cycle which includes some embedded soaks or if the Auto Soak option is selected, then the Soak LED would also be illuminated.

  • This applies to both electronic control models and models with knobs and LED status indicators. The lights will fade back out after a short period of time.
