Electric Range & Wall Oven - 240, 220, and 208 Volt Electrical Supply

A 240 Volt outlet basically is supplying twice the amount of power that a 120 Volt outlet can provide. This greater amount of electrical power is typically needed for appliances such as Electric Ranges, Electric Wall Ovens and Electric Cooktops.

Understanding a 240 Volt, 220 Volt and 208 Volt Electrical Supply

Most electric cooking appliances are rated at 240 volts. The nominal voltage is 240 volts, but homes may have a 208 volt, 220 volt or 240 volt power supply. Any appliance that is rated for 240 volts and can also be used on a 220 volt or 208 volt power supply. The reduced voltage may result in a longer heating time, so 240 volts does provide optimum performance.
