Refrigerator - How to Remove the Arctica Ice Bin

Side-by-side refrigerators with the Arctica Ice feature have an ice storage bucket that can easily be removed for cleaning.

Removing the Arctica Ice Storage Bucket on a Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Removing the Ice Storage Bin

  1. Grasp the bottom edge of the bin on the sides.
    • Use caution - Do not place your fingers out of the opening at the bottom front part of the bucket where the crusher blades are.
    • The bucket can be heavy if full of ice, so you may want to consider emptying the ice from the bucket prior to removal.
  2. Lift up on the front of the ice bucket so the bucket clears the stops on the ice bucket rail.
  3. Pull the bucket forward and out.

Reinstalling the Ice Storage Bin

  1. Line up the flange pieces on the sides of the bucket with the channels in the ice bucket rails.
  2. As you push the ice bucket all the way back, lift the front of the bucket so that it clears the stops on the front of the ice bucket rails.
    • Use caution - Do not place your fingers out of the opening at the bottom front part of the bucket where the crusher blades are.
    • You can verify the bucket is properly inserted by pulling forward on the bucket. It should hit the stops on the rail and not come out. If it does, the bucket needs to be pushed further back.
  3. If you are unable to push the ice bucket all the way back, it may be due to a misalignment between the back of the auger (located in the bucket) and the prongs on the auger motor (mounted in the back freezer wall). To fix this, remove the ice bucket, close the door, and press the dispenser for cubed or crushed ice. You should hear a snap. Open the door again and install the bucket.
