Range & Wall Oven - Traditional and Convection Cooking Systems
GE Appliances offers several different convection systems on ranges and wall ovens. Different convection cooking modes are available on these systems. Details on the cooking modes can be found in the Owner's Manual for the specific model you own.
Understanding Traditional and Convection Cooking Systems
Traditional
Does not have a convection fan in the oven and does not offer convection cooking modes.
Convection
Has a fan to circulate air in the oven cavity for improved performance. This is the most basic convection system offered.
The fan may operate continuously or cycle on and off depending on the oven model and/or mode. Frequent cycling is normal.
The fan only spins in one direction.
Some systems have a single speed fan and some systems have fans that can operate in low or high speeds, depending on the model.
The convection system is available on some free-standing, slide-in gas and electric ranges and wall ovens.

True European Convection
Has a fan to circulate air in the oven cavity and a heating element around the fan. The heating element provides an additional heat source, allowing further performance improvements particularly for multi-rack baking.
The fan may operate continuously or cycle on and off depending on the oven model and/or mode. Frequent cycling is normal.
The fan only spins in one direction.
Heating element use varies depending on the oven model and/or mode, it may be used as the primary heat source or in combination with other heaters such as the bake and broil heaters.
Some systems have a single speed fan and some systems have fans that can operate in low or high speeds.
This system is available on some gas freestanding and front control models, and some electric wall oven models.
True European Convection with Precise Air
Has a fan to circulate air in the oven cavity and a heating element around the fan.
The fan in these systems can change directions but the air always blows from the back of the cavity. The reversing fan provides additional performance benefits, evenness or speed depending on the cooking mode.
The fan may operate continuously or cycle on and off depending on the oven model and/or mode.
Includes a reversing/bi-directional convection fan.
Heating element use varies depending on the oven model and/or mode, it may be used as the primary heat source or in combination with other heaters such as the bake and broil heaters.
This system is currently available on some electric freestanding and front control models.

True European Convection with Direct Air
This is the most advanced convection system offered. Has a fan to circulate air in the oven cavity and a heating element around the fan.
The fan in these systems can direct air from the back of the cavity or from the top of the cavity and can run at different speeds. This provides additional performance benefits depending on the cooking mode.
The fan may operate continuously or cycle on and off depending on the oven model and/or mode.
Heating element use varies depending on the oven model and/or mode, it may be used as the primary heat source or in combination with other heaters such as the bake and broil heaters.
This system is currently only available on some electric wall ovens.
