Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - Drawer Frozen Shut

If the Freezer Drawer on a Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator is stuck closed and will not open, there is likely moisture that has frozen inside the Freezer that is preventing the Drawer from opening. This moisture can be a result of having the Freezer Drawer open with regular usage, or the Freezer Drawer left slightly open accidentally.

Correcting a Freezer Drawer That Is Frozen Shut

Try the following to remedy the concern with the Freezer Drawer.

  1. Unplug the Refrigerator and allow the Freezer to defrost. This can take about 24 to 48 hours.
  2. Once defrosted, open the Freezer Drawer and wipe any moisture dry, especially the rails that the Drawer sits on.
  3. Allow the Freezer to air dry for 24 hours prior to plugging the Refrigerator back in.
