Amazon Alexa - Potential of Turning on the Features During Commercials or You Tube Videos

There have been reports that Alexa will sometimes respond to commercials or YouTube ads. Amazon is aware of this issue and is working on ways to not activate Alexa from commercials.

While GE Appliances is not currently running TV ads at this moment, we do have some Internet videos that could possibly trigger Alexa/Geneva to respond. However to play the clip, you would have to go to YouTube or click on a link to initiate and you would be in the room with the Echo device so if it responded you would know. If Alexa/Geneva does turn on the oven, she will tell you immediately through her response so you would immediately know. Only the oven can be controlled, we do not allow the cooktop to be controlled currently.

Our ovens have independent safety features that are outside of Alexa/Geneva altogether. Before Alexa/Geneva can control your oven you have to do a very specific action. You must close the oven door and then, with the door closed, you must activate the "remote enable" feature on your appliance. On some models it is a button press and other models you have to turn a knob. In this case, you made a very specific choice to turn the oven to a state where it can be controlled remotely. Any action to open the door will disable the remote enable feature and eliminate the possibility of turning the oven on again without going through all the steps to turn on remote enable again.
