There are many factors in determining the proper size air conditioner for a room, square footage, number of occupants, is the room shaded or not and is the unit being used in a Kitchen.For a general guideline to determine the portable or window air conditioner you will need, the chart below can be used. First calculate your room size in square feet. To calculate the room size, multiply the room length by the room width.

There are many factors in determining the proper size air conditioner for a room. Factors to consider:
- Shaded room: Reduce by 10%
- Sunny Room: Increase by 10%
- If the room is occupied by more than 2 people: Increase by 600 BTUs
- Kitchen application: Add 4,000 BTUs
