Refrigerator and Freezer - Lubricant

Care must be taken in the selection and use of lubricants in Refrigerators and Freezers to prevent adverse consequences. All lubricants used inside Refrigerators and Freezers must be FDA approved to avoid contamination of foods.

Lubricating Refrigerator and Freezer Components

While Refrigerators and Freezers do not require lubrication as a part of appliance maintenance, we understand there may be times when you desire to lubricate a component that may be causing concern. General purpose lubricants that are safe and approved for use in Refrigerators and Freezers are provided below.

  • Pure Paraffin Wax (not candle wax) - This is recommended for use on door gaskets and drawer slides.
  • Pure Petroleum Jelly (without medication) - This is recommended for use on door hinges and roller axles.
  • Pure Mineral Oil - This is acceptable for general use but will not have a lasting effect on surfaces such as door gaskets and drawer slides.
