Opal Ice Maker - Troubleshooting
The chart below provides troubleshooting tips for the Opal Ice Maker. It lists some basic problem descriptions and suggested causes and solutions. You may also check the
Owner's Manual for your Opal Ice Maker for additional problem solving tips.
Opal Troubleshooting Tips
Problem | Possible Cause | Possible Solution |
Dripping under ice bin | Condensation | During normal operation, condensation forms on the bottom surface of the ice bin. This water will sometimes collect and drip down the lower front surfaces of the ice maker. The included drip tray can be installed in front of the Opal to collect this water. |
Loud Pumping Noises Water in Back of Ice Bin When Starting | System Flushing | At the start of ice making, the Opal will flush the system with water for approximately 5 minutes. You may see or hear water running during this process - this is normal. If Opal seems loud during this process, it may need more water. |
Slush Instead of Ice | Initial Ice Production | It is normal that as the Opal starts making ice the first nuggets will be slushy. After approximately 30 minutes the Opal will be making standard ice nuggets. |
Miscellaneous Failures | Removal of the Metal Screen | During operation, the provided metal screen or the approved water filter must be in place at the water inlet located at the bottom right corner of the reservoir. Failure to use either of these devices will create a risk of damaging your machine and will void the warranty. |
Warm Air Exiting Left Side (OPAL01GEPKT) or Rear (all other models) of Opal | Normal Operation | Opal uses a refrigeration system to turn the water into ice - this warm air is a normal by-product of the refrigeration process. |
No Ice Low Ice Production Opal Falsely Indicates Full Ice Bin | Ice Chute Blocked | Clean the Opal following the instructions in your model's Owner's Manual. Download a copy of the Owner's Manual |
Turning Off While Making Ice or Turning On By Itself | Schedule may be enabled via the SmartHQ app Ice bin may not be pushed in all the way or properly installed in Opal | Schedule may be enabled via the SmartHQ™ App. Once Schedule is enabled, Opal will check to see if it should be on or off once every hour. If you manually turn Opal on but it is scheduled to be off, it will shut off the next time it checks the schedule. This will usually occur at the top of the hour. When scheduling ice, select every hour that you want ice produced. For example, if you want ice from 12pm until 5pm, select 12:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00 and 5:00pm. In order to fix this issue, go to the mobile app and disable the schedule or unplug Opal, wait a few seconds, then plug back in. The ice bin must be fully inserted or Opal will turn itself off after approximately 5 minutes. |
