Bottom Freezer Refrigerator - How to Adjust External and Internal Temperature Controls

Our Bottom Freezer Refrigerators feature various types of temperature controls. The temperature controls not only vary in design, but some GE Appliances Bottom Freezer Refrigerators have the temperature control located inside the appliance, while others have the controls on the exterior. We are providing examples of the style of controls as well as how to adjust them.

Interior Knob Controls

Some Bottom Freezer Refrigerators have manual temperature control knobs located inside the fresh food compartment. The coldest setting is "9" and the warmest setting is "1". The "0" setting is OFF, which turns the cooling off. Turn knobs to lower numbers for warmer temperatures and to higher numbers for colder temperatures. Interior Controls with Digital 0-9 Settings

Some Bottom Freezer Refrigerators have digital temperature controls located inside the fresh food compartment. These internal controls show temperature ranges with the numerical ranking of 1-9 with 9 being the coldest. Digital controls are factory preset at 5, and can be adjusted by touching the “Warmer” or “Colder” until the desired setting is displayed. Interior Controls with Single or Dual Temperature Displays (0°F and 37°F)

Some Bottom Freezer Refrigerators have temperature controls located inside the fresh food compartment. Some models will display the actual temperature while most will display the set temperature only. Recommended control settings are 0°F for the freezer and 37°F for the fresh food compartment. To view or adjust the current temperature settings, press the Freezer or Fridge pads or "Warmer" or "Colder" pads, depending on the model, until the desired temperature setting is displayed. Exterior Controls with Temperature (0°F and 37°F) Display

Some Bottom Freezer Refrigerators have temperature controls located on the exterior of the fresh food compartment. The temperature display is off during normal operation unless one of the temperature adjustment pads is pressed, either Warmer / Colder arrow adjustment pads or "Freezer" and "Fridge" pads, depending on the model.On models where you press Fridge or Freezer to adjust the temperature, doesn't have separate up and down arrows, the temperature adjustment only goes in one direction. When you keep pressing the Fridge or Freezer pad, the temperature setting will go up until it reaches the maximum limit and then starts over at the lowest limit. The ranges for the fresh food section on most models is 34°F to 42°F; the range for the freezer section is -6°F to 5°F.This video demonstrates how to use the temperature controls on French-Door refrigerators for temperature settings:

Some models will display the actual temperature, while most will display the set temperature only. On these models, you press the arrow pads that allow you to adjust the temperature warmer or colder. The recommended control settings are 0°F for the freezer and 37°F for the fresh food compartment. Pressing any of the temperature adjustment pads once will display the temperatures.
