Dryer - How to Clean Exhaust / Vent Duct

We recommend inspecting and cleaning the exhaust ducting on a Dryer at least once a year to prevent clogging. A partially clogged exhaust vent can lengthen the drying time. A heavy accumulate of lint can create a potential fire hazard.

Cleaning the Exhaust Vent Duct on a Dryer

  1. Turn off the electrical supply to the Dryer by disconnecting the plug from the wall outlet.
  2. Disconnect the duct from the Dryer.
  3. Vacuum the duct with a vacuum hose attachment and reconnect the duct.

Exhaust Hood (Wall Cap): Check from the outside that the flaps of the hood move freely when operating. Make sure that there is not wildlife such as birds, mice or insects nesting inside the duct or hood.
