There are a few reasons why clothes may wrinkle in a Dryer. Listed below are reasons for wrinkling and steps to help prevent wrinkling.

Reducing Wrinkling of Clothes in a Dryer

Reasons for Clothes Wrinkling

  • Improper sorting of the wash load (for example, loading large, heavy items with lightweight, delicate items).
  • Use of incorrect drying cycles.
  • Leaving clothes in the Dryer after tumbling stops.
  • Too many items in the Dryer.
  • Too few items in the Dryer.

Steps to Correct Wrinkling

  1. Re-tumble the wrinkled clothing using the Permanent Press or Dewrinkle setting on models with these cycle options.
  2. If unsuccessful, re-tumble using a high heat temperature setting for 10 to 12 minutes and hang immediately.
  3. Iron the wrinkles from the clothing.
  4. If still wrinkled, you may need professional steaming to remove the wrinkles from the clothing.

Steps to Prevent Wrinkling

  • Remove clothes immediately when the Dryer stops tumbling and place on hangers or fold them.
  • Dry only one wash load at a time. Do not combine loads.
  • If drying only one article, add two similar articles even if dry, to ensure proper tumbling.
  • Avoid laundering heavy Permanent Press items such as work clothes with lighter Permanent Press items such as shirts or blouses.
  • Items must have room to move freely. Permanent Press loads should always be smaller than regular loads and no more than a medium size load.
  • Use a Permanent Press dry cycle.
