Top Load Washer - Cleaning Inside Agitator
Many Top Load Washers have an agitator. Generally speaking, the agitator does not require any routine maintenance or cleaning. Some agitators have a top cap or cover that is not removed. Some agitators have a fabric softener dispenser cup on the top of the agitator. For models with the cup on the top of the agitator, the fabric softener is dispensed during the spin portion of the wash cycle. The fabric softener will disperse through the agitator interior and into the wash load.
For Top Load Washers with a fabric softener dispenser at the top of the agitator, here are instructions for cleaning the interior of the agitator.
Cleaning Inside the Washer Agitator
- Select the Colors / Normal cycle, Super Fill or Deep Fill Water Level, the Deep Rinse Option and either the Warm or Hot temperature selection.
- Pour 1/4 cup detergent and 1 cup bleach into the wash basket.
- Remove the fabric softener dispenser from the agitator.
- Allow the Washer to fill and proceed to the wash phase. Allow the Washer to agitate for about 5 minutes.
- Lift the lid and use a long, slender, soft brush to clean the inside of the agitator.
- Use a measuring cup to take some of the wash water from around the outside of the agitator and pour it into the agitator to help flush out loosened soils.
- Please Note: This step must be completed in less than 15 minutes or the Washer will automatically drain out the wash water.
- Before the 15 minute period expires, shut the lid and allow the Washer to complete the remainder of the cycle as normal.
- Soils will be drained out with the wash water and rinsed out during the Deep Rinse process.
- Reinstall the fabric softener dispenser after the cycle is complete.
