Dishwasher - Checking and Replacing Door Gasket

If your Dishwasher is leaking around the door and is not sealing properly, make sure the door or tub gasket (seal) is in good condition and is pressed properly into place. Inspect the door gasket for tears, cuts and wear. If there are any tears, cuts or wear, the door gasket may need to be replaced.

Checking the Gasket

  • Some models have a black door gasket mounted onto the tub which can be visually inspected easily.
  • Some models have a light gray door gasket mounted on the door. This gasket wraps around the bottom of the door and should be inspected both visually and along the bottom by touch. The ends of the gasket on these models do not come together (meet) on the bottom of the door by design. There is approximately a three inch gap between the gasket ends. This is normal and does not indicate a problem with the gasket or create a leak.

Replacing the Gasket

  • You can order a replacement gasket from our GE Appliances Parts & Accessories site on-line.
  • Remove the gasket and seat the new gasket onto the Dishwasher in the appropriate grooves. When done correctly, the gasket should spread evenly on both sides. It may take several tries to seat the gasket properly.
