Electric Range & Cooktop - Explanation of When Radiant Burners Will Glow

On Electric Ranges and Cooktops that feature radiant heating elements, the heating elements will cycle on and off whether or not there is a pot or pan on the burner. Radiant heating elements are featured on Electric Ranges and Cooktops with a ceramic glass, smooth cooktop surface. A visible orange or red glow will be seen as the element cycles on and off.

Radiant Burner Function

  • The burner cycles 100% power on and off for various amounts of time, depending upon the burner setting. For example, the element cycles on more on a High setting and cycles on less on a Low setting.
  • Radiant and Halogen burners might also emit a slight "humming" sound while in operation. This is normal.
