Electric Ranges and Cooktops - Radiant Burner Too Hot After Setting to Lower Temperature

When using the burners on your electric range or cooktop, you may find that the burner still remains hot when turning the burner from a higher temperature setting to a lower setting. The result is that what you are cooking remains bubbling or boiling for some time, even after going to Low, for example. This is normal with radiant burners, especially on the Power Boil burner.

Why this is normal:

  • The glass retains heat, so takes longer to start to cool off.
  • The pan you're using also is very hot from both the burner and the hot food or liquid inside.
  • The food stays very hot because of the heat from the glass transferring to the pan, which in turn keeps the food hot.
