Microwave - Replacing a Built-In Monogram Microwave

When building a Monogram microwave oven into a cabinet opening, there are a few options available for this application. We are providing information regarding these options below.

 

Building a Monogram Microwave Into a Cabinet

If you are considering using a Built-In microwave, there are three types:

 

  • Countertop models that are Built-In capable with a trim kit

  • Built-In only models

  • Microwave Drawers

When replacing an existing Built-In microwave, consider the following:

 

  • Is the cut-out for the new microwave the same size?

  • Is it a similar style?

  • If this is a Built-In capable countertop model, which trim kit is needed? A 27" or a 30" wide trim kit?

Additional Information for Built-In Capable Countertop Models

  • Microwave trim kits are designed to provide a Built-In look while also providing the air flow necessary for the microwave.

  • The product details for each Built-In capable microwave will list the 27" and 30" trim kit options. The trim kit is purchased separately and does not come with the microwave. The only difference between the 27" and 30" trim kit is the trim frame. If the microwave is installed over a 27" or 30" wall oven, be sure to match the trim kit width to the oven.

  • A trim kit consists of the trim frame as well as ducts that encase and attach to the microwave inside the cabinet cut-out. 

  • It is very important to only use the trim kit designed for that model.

  • If you are replacing a Built-In countertop microwave with a newer model, you can only use the existing trim kit for the new model if the product details for both models have the same Built-In kit number listed. Check the Appearance section of the Specifications & Files tab for each model to compare Built-In kit numbers.

  • Microwave trim kits may require different cut-out openings in the cabinets, so check the recommended cut-out dimensions for the trim kit. This can be found in the microwave Quick Specs as well as the Installation Instructions for the specific model.
