Dishwasher - Normal Run Time

It is normal for dishwashers to run for up to two hours or more under certain conditions. Cycles times vary because of the clean sensors due to the sensor extending or decreasing cycle time and number of fills based on the soil level.

Dishwashers now run longer to ensure good wash performance, but they use less energy while running. Also, in using less water, your water heater does not need to provide as much hot water and therefore is not using energy to heat more water.

  • Changes to federal water and energy efficiency guidelines mean dishwashers use less water and less energy to run (even with longer cycle times). In fact, many dishwashers are Energy Star rated, so they surpass standard energy guidelines.
