Refrigerator - Water Leaking Onto The Floor

If you are finding water on the floor in front of your refrigerator, you'll want to determine the cause of the leaking. Please consider the tips provided below prior to scheduling a repair.

Diagnosing a Refrigerator That Is Leaking Onto the Floor

  • Check the water valve on the refrigerator to see if it is leaking or flooding. It may be stuck in the on position. If this appears to be the case, turn off water to the refrigerator and schedule a service appointment.
  • Some leaks could be plumbing issues. Check the copper or plastic water line from the home that is connected to the water valve on the appliance. It may be loose or split. Please contact your local plumber if your leak appears to be coming from the copper line itself.
  • Check the plastic fill-line from the water valve to the icemaker. It may be loose or split. If this appears to be the case, shut the water off and tighten the water valve.

Shutting Off Water to Your Refrigerator

  1. Turn off the icemaker, if applicable.
  2. Carefully pull the refrigerator out from the wall and locate where the water connection connects to your house water supply.
  3. Turn the shut-off valve clockwise to shut water off.
