Opal Ice Maker - Icemaker Turns Off Randomly
If your Opal is turning off suddenly, and you have not pressed the button on the front to turn it Off, then there are a few things to check.
Checking an Opal Ice Maker That Turns Off Randomly
Check the App
- You may have your schedule enabled via the SmartHQ™ app (or GE Profile Opal app on models with a large round button of the front).
When the schedule is enabled, the Opal will check to see if it should be On or Off once every hour. If you manually turn your Opal On, but it is scheduled in the app to be Off, it will shut off the next time it checks the schedule. This will usually occur at the top of the hour.
To fix this issue, go to your app and disable the schedule. Another way to disable the schedule is to unplug your Opal, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in.
Check the Ice Bin
- Make sure the bin is pushed in all the way. The ice bin must be installed and fully pushed in, or else the Opal will turn itself Off after approximately five minutes.
Clean Your Opal
The Opal may be behaving as though it's full, even when it's not. This could indicate that Opal needs a thorough cleaning. Minerals have probably built up over time.
