Water Heaters - Relief Valve Popping or Draining

If the relief valve is producing a popping sound or draining, it is most likely due to pressure buildup caused by thermal expansion to a closed system. This is an unacceptable condition and must be corrected. Do not plug the relief valve outlet. Contact a plumbing contractor to correct this.
