Opal Ice Maker - Installation of the Side Tank (Models with Round Button on Front)

Your GE Profile Opal Ice Maker comes with a side water tank accessory that can be installed on the left or right side of the Ice Maker. On the OPAL01GEPKT, which is recognizable by the large round button on the front, the side tank has magnets to attach it to the main Ice Maker.

To install the side tank properly, follow the directions provided below. More detailed instructions can be found in the Owner's Manual for the OPAL01GEPKT.

Side Tank Location

  • The side tank is installed flush to the front of the Ice Maker so that it does not block the air flow vents on the Opal.
  • The Ice Maker and side tank accessory should be installed on a level surface, and the tank should be at the same height as the Ice Maker.
  • Only fill with water, and make sure the water is safe for drinking.

Preparing for Installation

  1. First, hand wash the Opal side tank with mild dish soap and warm water.
  2. Remove the side tank cap and rubber valve, and wash with soap and water.
  3. The base can be washed by disconnecting the hose and adding a small amount of soapy water to it.
  4. Be sure to rinse all components thoroughly before using the Opal. Do not wash in the dishwasher.

Connecting the Side Tank

  1. Unplug the Opal Ice Maker.
  2. Unhook the two drain tubes. If this is not the initial installation, be sure to drain the water from the reservoir.
  3. Facing the back of the Opal, take drain tube B (right drain tube) and connect it to the back of the side tank base. Make sure it is laying flat on the countertop.
  4. Make sure drain tube A (left drain tube) is connected to the black hanger and is installed on the back of the Opal.
  5. Place the side tank against the Opal (either left or right side) so that the side magnets attach to the Ice Maker.
    • Drain tube B should always be connected to the side tank, regardless of whether it is installed on the left or right side of the Ice Maker.
  6. Remove the side tank's clear reservoir from its base.
  7. Turn the empty reservoir over and unscrew the side tank cap and fill the reservoir with water. Screw the cap back on.
  8. Carefully flip over the reservoir and place it in the base. Water will start flowing into the Ice Maker.
    • Bubbles are normal as water is flowing into the Ice Maker.
    • If water is not flowing, check the connections and make sure the drain tube (B) is laying flat on the counter.
  9. Plug in the Ice Maker.
