Flying Ice Cubes from Icemaker or Dispenser

Flying out of the icemaker mold:

  • If the cubes from your automatic icemaker are flying or spraying or shooting out of the mold and landing outside the bucket, a water line restriction may be causing smaller than normal ice cube production.
  • A self-piercing saddle valve may cause this type of restriction. Occasionally, shutting the saddle valve all the way off and then back on can re-open the pierced hole in the copper tubing. (A non-self-piercing style is recommended)

Flying out of the dispenser (missing glass):

  • If the freezer temperature is too cold, the ice will spray more because it is more brittle and flies apart faster while being crushed. To correct this, turn the thermostat control to a warmer setting. The thermostat control will have a "0" of "off" listed and on digital models it is the fresh food control.
  • Ice may spray over the side of the glass if the glass is held to far from the dispenser chute. Holding the glass approximately one inch from the dispenser chute will correct this.
  • Ice may spray over the side of the glass if the mouth of the glass is too small. If possible, use a glass with a wider mouth (3 - 4" opening).
