Range & Wall Oven - Steakhouse Mode - How to Use It

Beginning June 1, 2022, GE Appliances is launching our Steakhouse Mode Over-the-Air rollout to update certain models of ranges and wall ovens with the new Steakhouse Mode. This is an example of the benefit of connecting smart appliances - they can get better over time!

We will push the update to the SmartHQ™ App for you to upload. Our Steakhouse Mode update will begin to be pushed to units via WiFi beginning June 1, 2022. This rollout arrives just in time for Summer! Information on the Steakhouse Mode update is available on the GE Appliances Downloadable Appliance Upgrades page.

If you need help with connecting, you can contact the Connected Home Support Line at 1-800-220-6899, Monday - Friday 9am - 11pm ET, Saturday - Sunday 9am - 3pm ET, or email [email protected].

Steakhouse Mode requires the use of the Temperature Probe that came with your oven. If you cannot find your oven Probe, you can order one from our GE Appliances Parts & Accessories website. The part number for the Probe is WB20T10024.

For information on the use of Steakhouse Mode and the Probe, please take a peek at our Range & Wall Oven - Steakhouse Mode FAQs and Tips article. You may want to check out the Range & Wall Oven - Steakhouse Mode - Steak Troubleshooting article too.

Once the Steakhouse Mode is uploaded, all eligible units receive a new Precision Cooking mode, “Steak”. Once you have uploaded the feature, “Steak Mode” can be accessed via Precision Cooking => Meats => Steak.

Steakhouse Mode guides you through using the reverse sear cooking method to achieve juicy steaks with a uniform internal doneness. Follow the prompts on your screen which will take you through 3 Steps of a cooking cycle: Heat, Sear, and Rest. Here is how it works:

STEP 1: HEAT

First, you’ll select your preferred level of doneness. Next, you will insert your oven Probe into the steak as shown in the illustration on your screen. You will then be prompted to attach the Probe to the oven. Once you start the process, the steak is slowly heated to a custom temperature based on your oven and the doneness selected. This step uses the oven probe to accurately cook the steak to the proper internal temperature. Once the steak reaches the target temperature, your oven will notify you to remove the probe (using an oven mitt) to prepare for the Sear step.

STEP 2: SEAR

Once the probe is removed, the surface of the steak will be seared for a custom amount of time (also depending on your oven system and doneness selection). Some additional internal cooking of the steak occurs during this step, which is why the Probe target temperature displayed on the screen during the HEAT Step may not match the expected temperature for the doneness selected.

STEP 3: REST

Once the SEAR Step is completed, remove the steak from the oven and allow it to rest for 5 minutes to complete the cooking process and reach its final doneness. The steak may transition an entire doneness level during this step (for example, going from rare to medium rare while resting).

This 3 Step process ensures that you get a juicy steak with a uniform internal doneness exactly as you desire. Enjoy!
