Dishwasher - GE Profile™ Series with SmartDispense Technology

What is SmartDispense?SmartDispense was the first dishwasher to dispense just the right amount of detergent in every cycle (including each pre-wash) based on water hardness and soil level. This is not a feature on current dishwashers.

How does the dishwasher recognize water hardness? There was a water hardness test strip (WD01X10295) provided with each SmartDispense unit that allowed you to program in the water hardness upon initial installation. View a short video about calibrating water hardness:

What is the benefit of dispensing detergent based on water hardness?More detergent is dispensed in hard water situations and less is dispensed in soft water due to sudsing.

What type of detergent was recommended in the SmartDispense unit? The SmartDispense reservoir (located in the dishwasher door) accommodates either liquid or gel dishwasher detergent. No powder detergent can be inserted into the reservoir. Any dishwasher detergent manufacturer's liquid or gel will work in the SmartDispense dishwasher.

How much dishwasher detergent liquid or gel will fit into the reservoir? The reservoir holds 45 oz of liquid or gel - which is a standard sized bottle of detergent.

How do I know how much detergent is left in the SmartDispense reservoir? There is a red LED on the control panel to indicate when the SmartDispense reservoir is low. When the light illuminates, there are approximately 11 washes remaining.

Can I use the manual detergent cup if there is detergent in the SmartDispense reservoir? You can manually add detergent or cleaning product using the manual detergent cup; however, if there is detergent in the SmartDispense reservoir it will also be pumped out during the wash cycle.
