Refrigerator - Energy Saving Tips

If you would like to make your refrigerator as energy efficient as possible. Follow these energy saving tips:

  • The location of the refrigerator is important. If possible, avoid placing the refrigerator next to the range, near a heating vent, or where it will receive direct sunlight.

  • Do not open the doors more often than necessary, and be sure to close the doors as soon as possible, particularly in hot, humid weather.

  • Be sure the doors close tightly.

  • Store only those foods requiring refrigeration in the refrigerator.

  • Wipe the moisture from bottles and cartons before putting them in the refrigerator.

  • Keep food covered.

  • Clean the condenser coils regularly if specified in the Owner's Manual. Refer to the Owner's Manual for model specific instructions. Download a copy of the Owner's Manual.

  • See also Refrigerator - Normal Run Time for information on factors that contribute to run time.

  • If the controls are turned to the coldest position for quick chilling or freezing, be sure to turn them back to the regular settings.

  • When loading the refrigerator, be careful to not fill it so full that the air cannot circulate.
