Range & Wall Oven - Parts That Can Be Cleaned in the Self-Clean Oven

There are some parts or components of a range or wall oven that may be cleaned in a self-clean oven. It is important to note that some components are specifically designed for cleaning in a self-clean oven. Other components can be self-cleaned but may not provide excellent results. Please consult the Owner's Manual for your specific model for self-cleaning recommendations.

Parts Recommended By Design for Self-Cleaning

  • Gas Range Self-Clean Grates - Please take a look at our Gas Range - Self-Clean Grates article for detailed information.
  • Self-Clean Oven Racks - There are stoves and wall ovens which feature self-cleaning oven racks. Rather than being chrome plated, they have a porcelain-enamel coating similar to that of the oven liner. These can be left in the oven during a self-clean cycle. They clean well and do not discolor like chrome plated oven racks do.

Parts That Can Be Self-Cleaned But Are Not Specifically Designed for This Application

The following items may be able to be cleaned in a self-clean oven. However, results can vary and components may become discolored.

  • Aluminum drip pans - These may discolor and warp.
  • Porcelain drip pans - Less likely to discolor but may warp. Exception: You cannot self-clean 1 piece lock-down drip pans.
  • Chrome plated oven racks - These will discolor and have a dull (no longer shiny) look.
  • Removable panels (on ovens so equipped) - This is applicable to very old models which featured removable panels.
