Refrigerator Accessory Icemaker Kits

We offer icemaker kits for refrigerators that did not come furnished with an icemaker from the factory. We sell these kits as optional accessories; however, the refrigerator must also be equipped to accept the optional icemaker. Models that accept kits will list this in the product specifications.

The most common kits are:

Icemaker Kits come with all the parts necessary to install the icemaker, with the exception of the plumbing supplies. The water supply line and the fittings needed to connect the icemaker to the household plumbing are not included.

Water Supply (Not Included with Refrigerator)

  • Allow enough tubing from the cold water supply line to allow the refrigerator to be moved out from the wall several feet. Measure the distance from the water valve on the back of the refrigerator to the water supply pipe and then add 8 feet.
    • Be sure there is sufficient extra tubing (about 8 feet coiled into 3 turns of about 10” diameter) to allow the refrigerator to move out from the wall after installation.
    • There is no maximum length. The line can be run as long as necessary to reach a main water line.
  • Current icemakers require a 1/4" compression fitting on the water line.
    • Copper or GE SmartConnect™ Refrigerator Tubing kit is recommended.
    • Needs ¼" outer diameter to connect the refrigerator to the water supply.
    • If using copper, be sure both ends of the tubing are cut square.
  • DO NOT connect icemaker to a hot water line.

Other Information

  • With a new installation, it may take 12-24 hours before the icemaker cools down enough (15 degrees F) to call for water.
  • To get faster ice service when necessary, change both the freezer and the refrigerator temperature controls to a colder setting. Return the controls to the normal settings when ice storage bin is full. The current storage bin holds about six pounds of ice cubes.
  • Icemaker Kits have a one year warranty.
  • Problems resulting from installation are not considered manufacturing defects and are not covered by warranty.
  • On the IM4D with the 6-prong cord, make sure the safety outlet cover (may appear to look like a 2-prong outlet) has been removed.
