Top Load & Unitized Washers - Moving Instructions

When moving your washer to a new location, it is important to move it properly.

Preparing the Washer for Moving, Storing, or Shipping

  1. Unplug the power cord.

  2. Re-install the Top Load Washer - Shipping Rod or shipping material (if available).

  3. Turn off the hot and cold water supply to the washer.

  4. Carefully unscrew and remove the hoses from the washer and the faucets. The drained hoses can be stored inside the washer basket (tub).

  5. Remove the drain hose from house drain standpipe.

  6. Remove the mounting screw that holds the hose attached to the back of washer. Pull the drain hose out, drain off any water, and store it in the washer basket (tub).

Special Notes

  • For models with a detergent tank - do not move the washer with a full tank of detergent. If moving the washer with a partially filled tank of detergent, do not tilt the washer forward as detergent could spill from the tank.
  • The washer must be shipped upright to prevent damage to the suspension or inner and/or outer tub. This includes unitized washer/dryer models.

General Shipping Information

  • When possible, secure the tub of the washer using the shipping rod or shipping material.

  • 2015 and newer - Most models use cardboard shipping material to secure the tub.

    • The shipping material consists of a cardboard base with a cardboard cone attached.

    • The cardboard cone fits under the tub and holds the motor in place.

    • The cardboard does not need to be retained for future use. The washer can be moved without needing to secure the tub/basket.

  • 2013 and newer - Most models use styrofoam shipping material to secure the tub.

    • Keep the bottom styrofoam shipping base after installing the washer for future moves.

    • If moving the washer within the home, the tub does not need to be stabilized.

    • If moving the washer from one home to another, put the original shipping styrofoam base under it, if available.

  • 1995 and newer - Use a shipping rod.

    • Metal rod with a yellow tag on the end, located on the lower right side of machine.

    • Rod must be removed after installation.

    • Tag of the shipping rod has a reminder to save the rod for future moves.

    • A new shipping rod (WH46X344) can be purchased.

  • 1994 and older: Use shipping material

    • Be sure the washer is properly protected to prevent damaged to the outer cabinet.

    • Use the original packing material that was mounted on top of the agitator if available.

    • If necessary, a blanket can be packed down between the two tubs when being moved or shipped.
