Air Conditioner - Why The Fan Runs Continuously

The design of a window or built-in air conditioner is to have the fan run continuously while the appliance is in use.

Understanding Why the Fan Runs Continuously on an Air Conditioner

When the selector switch is in the Fan Cool or Heat position, the fan will run continuously. A continuously running fan provides constant air flow in the area to be cooled, keeping the room at a more comfortable temperature. As a result, the temperature variation is reduced.

On models equipped with an Energy Saver or Fan Cycle switch, the fan will cycle off with the compressor by placing the switch in the Energy Save or Fan Cycle position. For more information, please see our Air Conditioner - Energy Saver Switch article.
