Wall Ovens and Ranges - Types of Oven Interiors
Most wall ovens and ranges have Self-Clean oven interiors; however, you may also find models with Standard Clean or Continuous Clean (older units).
Self-Clean:
- The self-clean oven is a smooth porcelain enamel-on-steel liner designed to withstand the high temperature from the self-clean cycle.
- The self-cleaning process uses a pyrolytic system, which means the temperature inside the oven is raised so high that food soils in the oven will decompose
- Internal oven temperature is raised to about 880 degrees F. At this point, food soils literally decompose into an essentially odorless, colorless vapor. (The amount of heat the self-cleaning process puts into the kitchen is about the same as that generated in cooking a normal meal, except that it will run for a longer period of time).
Standard Clean:
- The standard clean oven is a smooth, porcelain-enamel-on-steel liner, with shelf supports embossed in liner material.
- This smooth surface liner makes cleaning easy.
- The liner also reflects heat away from the surface to help prevent spill-overs from baking on.
Continuous Clean:
- The continuous clean oven is manufactured with a chemically treated, ceramic coated porcelain that is porous. The rough texture partially absorbs or disperses spillovers not removed by oxidation during regular baking.
- Found on select, older model ranges. This is not a current feature.
