Dishwasher - Lower Spray Arm Not Spinning

To get the correct wash performance from your Dishwasher, please make sure the spray arms in the Dishwasher can rotate freely. This will allow an even distribution of water circulating throughout the Dishwasher interior so that each dish will be cleaned. Two indicators that the Dishwasher may have a blocked spray arm are a constant tapping noise when running the Dishwasher or dishes in a section of the Dishwasher that are not getting properly washed.

Checking to Make Sure the Spray Arms In a Dishwasher Are Rotating Properly

To ensure the spray arms can rotate freely, spin the spray arms with your hand and make sure they can make a full revolution. Common items that can block the spray arm are:

  • Large utensils such as wooden spoons or spatulas

  • Cutting boards

  • Large pots and pans

  • Items hanging down below the bottom of the rack/basket

If the lower or middle spray arm on a Dishwasher is not spinning, the Dishwasher may not be filling with the proper amount of water. For more information, please review our Dishwasher - Not Enough Water article.
