Under Cabinet Vent Hood - Replacing the Light Bulb

Please Note: Always allow the light bulbs to cool before attempting to replace them.

Replacing the Light Bulb

Flat, Circular Light Bulb

Some Under the Cabinet Vent Hood models have flat, circular light bulbs (lamps) underneath the hood at the front corners that light the cooking surface below the Hood. This includes models such as JVX5300, JVX5305 and PVX7300. These are typically Halogen light bulbs.

To Remove the Lamp(s)

  1. First, be sure to turn the vent off and disconnect power to the appliance at the fuse or circuit breaker. This is for your protection as well as protecting the Vent Hood.
  2. Take a piece of tape, for example, masking tape or painter's tape, and form a circle/loop by sticking the ends of the tape together. Be sure to have the sticky side facing outward.
  3. Stick the tape to the lens of the lamp and pinch the opposite side together to form a "handle" that you can grasp.
  4. Grasp the tape, push up on the lamp, and turn counterclockwise.
  5. If preferred, you can try wearing latex gloves to get a grip on the light bulb instead of using tape.
  6. After you feel the lamp come out of the socket, gently pull the bulb the rest of the way out of the socket.

To Install a New Lamp

  1. Purchase the same type (GU10) and watt bulb as the one you are replacing. Purchase a GE Appliance part online.
  2. Gently insert the lamp into the socket.
  3. Stick tape on the lamp or wear latex gloves following the same steps as you used for removing the lamp.
  4. Turn the lamp clockwise to tighten the lamp.

Standard Incandescent Light Bulb

Some Under the Cabinet Vent Hood models have standard incandescent light bulbs (lamps) underneath the Hood at the front of the appliance that light the cooking surface below the Hood. This includes models such as JVX3300 and JVX3240.

To Remove the Lamp(s)

  1. First, be sure to turn the vent off and disconnect power to the appliance at the fuse or circuit breaker. This is for your protection as well as protecting the Vent Hood.
  2. Remove the lamp cover.
  3. Unscrew the light bulb by turning it counterclockwise to release it from the socket and pull it out.

To Install a New Lamp

  1. Replace with a new light bulb of the same type (standard incandescent), making sure the socket is properly inserted into the housing of the lamp holder.
  2. Reinstall the lamp cover.
