SxS Refrigerator - Replacing Fresh Food and Freezer Lights

Most SxS refrigerators have a light in the freezer and one or more lights in the fresh food section. Models with a dispenser will have a small dispenser lamp too. If the interior or dispenser light(s) need to be replaced, replace each light with the same or lower wattage. Most models use a 40 wall appliance bulb for the interior; however, the dispenser lamp can vary. Fresh Food Section - Upper Light

In the fresh food section, there will be a light on the ceiling, hidden by a light cover.
  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. There may still be a small piece of shipping tape, preventing the light shield from being removed.  Remove the tape if it is there.
  3. Remove the light shield. The light shield snaps on. Place your right hand on top of the plastic shield and pull towards you.

To re-install light shield:

  • On models with pad controls—Replace the light shield by holding it against the left wall and sliding up and toward the rear wall until it snaps in place.
  • On models with knob controls—To replace the light shield, position the plastic hooks on the light shield so they fit into the holes
 

Fresh Food Section - Lower Light (on some models)

Many models also have a fresh food light midway down the back wall of the refrigerator, behind the upper crisper drawers.

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. There may still be a small piece of shipping tape, preventing the light shield from being removed. Remove the tape if it is there.
  3. Grasp the lip at the bottom of the light shield and pull it up and forward.
 To re-install light shield:  Line up the groove on the light shield with the back of the crisper drawer shelf.

Freezer Section (on some models)

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. Remove the shelf just below the light shield. (The shelf will be easier to remove if it is emptied first.)
  3. Lift up on the light shield to remove.
 To re-install: Line up the groove on the light shield with the back of the shelf under it.

Dispenser Light:

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. The bulb is located on the dispenser under the control panel. Remove the light bulb by turning it counterclockwise.
