Dryer - Check Vent Sensor Alert
Some of our Dryers have a sensor that can tell when air flow coming out of the Dryer is low. The "Check Vent" alert notifies you that your vent is blocked. It's important for there to be good air flow out of the Dryer through the vent.
The vent exhausts hot, moist air from your Dryer, along with excess lint not captured by the lint filter. If the Dryer cannot rid itself of the excess heat and humidity, it will stay inside the Dryer drum. It can cause the Dryer to be hot to the touch, sweat, and will increase the drying times. It can also be a potential safety issue, since it can also cause lint to build up in the vent.
If you get the "Check Vent" alert you should check and clean the vent as soon as possible. Even if the alert doesn't occur, you should clean the vent at least once a year.
Cleaning the Dryer Vent
- Unplug the Dryer.
- Disconnect the duct from the Dryer.
- Vacuum the duct with an appliance brush or a vacuum hose attachment.
- Check the outside wall cap/hood. The damper (flaps) of the wall cap should move freely when operating. Make sure that there is not a bird or other wildlife nest inside the duct or hood.
