Opal Ice Maker - Taste of the Ice

An Opal Ice Maker can make good nugget ice with typical city water. However, your water quality will make a difference in the taste of the ice. We recommend using only distilled water in your Opal, if possible.

Understanding the Importance of Water Quality with the Opal Ice Maker

  • Water quality is very important to the function and required maintenance of your Ice Maker, especially in hard water areas.

  • Minerals from your water can build up in the Opal over time, which can affect the taste of the ice. Even bottled water can have high mineral content.

  • If you are using a filter, the filter may be clogged. Replace the filter. Filters can last up to 3 months, depending on your water quality.

  • If your ice is salty tasting, please take a look at our Opal Ice Maker - Ice Tastes Salty article.

If you have good water quality, but your ice doesn't taste good, we recommend a good cleaning of the Opal.
