Opal Ice Maker - Defrost Mode

Your Opal Ice Maker or Opal Ice Maker Dispenser will defrost when needed. When your Opal needs defrosting, it may start to squeak as ice starts to build up around the mechanisms. The defrost cycle is automatic and may take 30-45 minutes (may only take 10-20 minutes on the dispenser model). During this time, the ice maker will not respond when you press any buttons, and it will not make ice.

On the Opal Ice Maker Dispenser model...

  • If the Defrost indicator is blinking, this indicates that you should put the machine through a cleaning cycle. Press and hold the Clean button for 3 seconds to start.

  • If the Opal is going into Defrost mode too frequently (ex. every day) or there are no sounds indicating that the auger is frozen, visit Opal Ice Maker Dispenser - Defrost Issues or more information.

For either model, if the unit has been stuck in Defrost Mode for more than 1 hour, unplug the unit for 30 minutes and restart. If the unit continues to go back into Defrost Mode, contact Opal Support at myopalservice.com 866-907-6718, M-F 8-8 EST.
