Gas Range & Cooktop - Discolored Burner Drip Pans and Burner Heads

Having a gas range or gas cooktop means that some discoloration or staining of the drip trays and burner heads is inevitable. Most discoloration is normal, though sooty, black build-up is not.
 

Drip Pans Discoloration

  • It is normal for the heat of the cooktop to discolor the drip pans under the burners.
  • They can also discolor if they have been cleaned in the self-clean cycle.

Burner Heads Discoloration

  • Keeping the burner assembly clean is important to keeping the burner heads from discoloring from food staining. 
  • If your burner heads are blackening or discoloring with each use and it's not food soils, this is not normal. You may want to contact your installer or your local gas company to have the burner adjustments checked.
