Dishwasher – Not Filling with Water

If your dishwasher is not filling with water, there are a few easy things you can do to resolve this issue:

Check the Filter and Flood Float:

The flood float keeps the dishwasher from overfilling with water. If stuck, it will prevent water from entering the dishwasher.

  • Most 2015 and newer dishwasher models have a flood float that can be checked and even replaced by the owner, if needed: Dishwasher - Flood Float.

  • All other models will require service if there is a concern with the flood float.

Drain Issues:

If the dishwasher is not draining properly, it could prevent new water from entering the dishwasher.

New Installation:

If this is a new dishwasher being used for first time:

  1. Pour 1 quart of water into the dishwasher. This will lubricate the pump seals and eliminate rattling and squealing.

  2. Allow the dishwasher to run for up to 10 minutes.

  3. Check to see if water has entered the tub.

If the dishwasher still will not fill, service may be needed. For service, please schedule an appointment with GE Appliances Factory Service.
