GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer - How to Winterize and Store Your Appliance
If your GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer is stored in an area where freezing can occur, or will be moved in freezing temperatures, follow the instructions below. Winterizing your UltraFast Combo can prevent damage to the appliance.
Winterizing Your UltraFast Combo
Do not install or store your UltraFast Combo where it will be exposed to temperatures below freezing or exposed to the weather without first winterizing the appliance using the instructions below. Not winterizing the UltraFast Combo could cause permanent damage and invalidate the warranty.
- Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet and store it appropriately.
- Turn off the water supply faucets.
- Disconnect the hoses from the water supply and drain out the water from the hoses.
- Drain the water out of the pump by removing and cleaning the pump filter.
- Remove the drain hose from the standpipe and drain the residual water potentially left in the hose.
- Remove the dispenser drawers and clean them following these instructions. You can also find them in the Owner's Manual:
- Remove each drawer by first pulling it out until it stops. Then reach back into the rear of the drawer cavity and press down firmly on the lock tab while pulling the drawer all the way out.
- Drain out all additives and detergents in the storage tanks.
- Rinse each drawer with hot water to remove any traces of accumulated laundry products. You may also want to clean the drawer openings, using a small brush to clean and remove all the residue from the upper and lower parts of the recesses in the drawer openings.
- Dry out and reinstall the dispenser drawers.
- Remove and clean the lint and foam filters, as well as the filter compartment.
- To clean the lint filter, run your fingers across it. If there is a waxy buildup on this filter, wash it in warm, soapy water, then let it dry thoroughly.
- To clean the foam filter, open the filter frame and remove the foam filter. Rinse it and discard the lint. Then insert the foam filter back into the filter frame using the locating tabs for guidance, making sure the filter is properly aligned in the frame.
- To clean the filter compartment while the filters are removed, use a vacuum with a crevice tool attachment or the Appliance Brush Set available from our online GE Appliance Parts Store.
- Do NOT reinstall the filter. Store the filter on top of the Combo or in a safe place.
- For more information on cleaning the filters, please refer to the Owner's Manual (linked above) and our Filter Cleaning support page on our GE Appliance website.
- When moving the Combo, the tub should be kept stationary by using the four shipping bolts removed during installation.
Reconnecting the UltraFast Combo
After sitting in a cold environment all winter, it is best to let the Combo "thaw" for 24 hours at room temperature.
When it's time to use the Combo again, simply connect the hoses at the faucets, turn the faucets back on, install the drain hose into the standpipe, reinstall the filter back into the filter compartment, and plug the Combo back in to the wall receptacle. The Installation Instruction section in your
Owner's Manual will walk you through the steps for connecting the UltraFast Combo again.
