GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer - Cycle Times

Your GE Profile™ UltraFast Combo Washer/Dryer will wash and dry most average large loads (a mixed 10-pound load) in about 2 hours in its 4.8-cubic-foot capacity. Below are some examples of typical cycle times for most common loads, noting that individual results may vary based on the actual load contents and options you select:

  • 10 lb. mixed load ~ 1 hour, 56 minutes
  • 2 sets of queen-size sheets ~ 2 hours, 28 minutes
  • 6 piece towel set ~ 2 hours, 19 minutes
  • 1 king-size comforter ~ 2 hours, 37 minutes

Long Cycle Times

There are many factors that could contribute to longer-than-average cycle times. If a cycle is taking longer than you think it should, please check out the list of suggestions below to reduce cycle times:

  • Update software.
  • Avoid out-of-balance loads.
    • Make sure your Combo is installed and leveled properly, and the clench nuts on the legs are locked. Improper installation or leveling could cause an out-of-balance load to occur, preventing the Combo from spinning the water out of your clothes properly at the end of the wash cycle and leaving them excessively wet going into the dry cycle.  This will contribute to extended load-sensing times and increase the dry cycle time.
      • Load sensing at the beginning of a cycle should not take more than 3 to 4 minutes. When your Combo reaches a point at the end of the dry cycle where it thinks it is about 15 minutes from finishing the load, it will go into load sensing which will be indicated on the display screen. During this load-sensing, your Combo is sensing the moisture content in your clothing. If the moisture content is too high, the dry cycle will continue.
    • Adjust load size
      • Both underloading and overloading your Combo can cause out-of-balanced loads. If you notice a cycle getting out of balance (the SPIN light flashing is a good indicator), we recommend that you stop the cycle and redistribute the items. For example, small loads (8 pounds or less) can get out of balance easily because there are fewer items to evenly distribute the weight.
      • Generally, we recommend not washing single items as they may go out of balance, and you will likely need to run a Drain & Dry to get the items to spin out better before going into the Dry cycle.
        • For example, washing one king-size pillow is a tough load for any frontload washer or Combo. It will cause an out-of-balance load, and the unit will not be able to spin up properly to remove the water from the item. When unable to spin up due to the out-of-balance load, the Combo will default to a slower spin speed, and the item will be very wet at the end of the wash cycle, causing extremely long dry times.
      • Avoid large loads of heavy fabrics, like too many beach towels. Large, heavy fabrics contain more moisture and take longer to dry. Separate large, heavy fabrics into smaller loads to speed up the drying time.
      • Designed for a small load, the Quick Cycle option should wash and dry a small load in about 70 minutes. Adjustments to this time are made after load sensing; time is added for larger loads, etc. If this cycle is taking longer, most likely you are not using a small load.
      • Sort properly
        • Generally, a well-sorted washer load is also a well-sorted dryer load. Separating heavy items from lightweight items can reduce the occurrence of out-of-balance loads.
        • To reduce cycle time, load similar fabrics so there will be more water extracted in the wash cycle's final spin, resulting in a shorter and more accurate dry performance. Significantly different materials or fabrics, such as blankets or towels versus sheets, will absorb different amounts of water and affect the drying performance.
        • When washing bulky items such as pillows, we recommend washing a few other items with them to allow for even distribution around the basket. You can then either dry all items together or remove the other items at the end of the wash and dry the pillow only.
  • Check detergent amounts.
    • Avoid using too much detergent in your Combo, as it can lead to oversudsing, detergent residue being left on the clothes, and could extend wash times.
  • Periodically, clean the lint filter.
  • Make sure the pump filter is not clogged.
  • Set Eco Dry to OFF and More Dry to ON.
    • By turning off Eco Dry and adding More Dry, the Combo will dry clothes to a higher dryness level than what may be required. Consider running with More Dry off. If you desire an even shorter time, you can turn Eco Dry on in the menu. You may need to find the best conditions for your acceptable dryness level.
