Dehumidifier - Not Reaching Proper Humidity Level
Dehumidifiers can be programmed to maintain a set relative humidity level in the room. If it is taking too long to remove the moisture from the room or the appliance is not reaching the set humidity level, please review the general guidelines below.
Diagnosing a Dehumidifier That Is Not Reaching the Proper Humidity Level
New Installation
- When first installed, allow at least 3-4 days to remove moisture from the room to maintain the desired dryness. The Dehumidifier is dehumidifying the air as well as the moisture from walls and objects in the room.
- Make sure the appliance is properly sized for the room. For more information, visit our Dehumidifier - Sizing article.
Location
- Check to make sure that all windows and doors are closed.
- Make sure the Dehumidifier has proper air flow and that no curtains, blinds, or furniture is blocking the front or back of the Dehumidifier.
- If used in a laundry area, install the Dehumidifier away from the moisture laden air generated by the Dryer. Running the Dryer in the same room can affect the dehumidifying ability of the Dehumidifier.
- For more information, visit our Dehumidifier - Ideal Operating Conditions article.
Operation
- The controls may not be set properly. Adjust the controls according to the Owner's Manual for the specific model you own.
- Clean the filter, since a clogged filter can restrict airflow. For more information, visit our Dehumidifier - Air Filter article.
